What Does an Optometrist Do?

You may know that when you have to visit an eye doctor, you are seeing an optometrist – but what exactly do they do?

  • Optometrists have earned a Doctor of Optometry degree to help people maintain their eye health, treat eye diseases and provide corrective services for their patients.
  • Optometrists not only provide routine eye checkups for people with healthy eyes, but also often provide treatment for medical issues, such as diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eyes.
  • They are your first resource when you need corrective lenses, including glasses, contacts, or protective eyewear.

Your optometrist can answer any of your questions about your eye health and make expert recommendations for improving your vision and continuing good eye health.

When you come to our vision center, depending on your specific needs, you will be seen by our optometrist, Dr. Chuck Monson. Dr. Monson attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he received his Doctorate, and completed several externships before coming to Vision Center of Lake Norman. He specializes in glasses and contact lenses, family eye care, and treating various eye diseases.
