Our comprehensive pediatric eye exams address both vision-related and eye health concerns.
Just as you likely have a general practice physician to handle annual physicals for everyone in your family, it is important to have a place you can go for comprehensive pediatric eye exams. Here at Vision Center of Lake Norman, we recommend that people of all ages have regular eye exams to rule out any vision problems or eye health concerns.
It might surprise you that as many as 10% of preschoolers and 25% of school-aged children are found to require vision correction. Since being able to see their work and the teacher is such a critical part of learning, we recommend an eye exam prior to their first day in the Huntersville, North Carolina school system and regularly from there on. Not seeing as they should doesn’t compute for a young child, so they don’t know to tell you that something isn’t right.
During our comprehensive pediatric eye exams, we begin by discussing patient history and evaluating visual acuity. Depending on the patient and what we find initially, we may involve supplemental tests that go beyond the preliminary ones. We may also conduct an eye health evaluation. By including both visual and ocular health testing, we can address a wide variety of potential issues and accurately diagnose them.
Is Your Child Excited About Their First Pair of Glasses?
Learning that your child needs vision correction could be a shock to both you and them. If you’re planning on having your child fitted for glasses, there may be some lingering stress about this new adventure. Here are a few things you can do to encourage a positive experience for your child as they receive their first pair of glasses.
- Point out some of their favorite cartoon or TV characters who wear glasses.
- Get excited about looking at the cool new frames they get to wear.
- Practice taking the glasses on and off, so they really get to see how amazing the world is!
Should any of the pediatric eye exams indicate an issue, we can make recommendations to correct vision-related and eye health issues. If anyone in your family needs prescription lenses, we offer products from some of the major optical companies.
