LASIK and Refractive Surgery Co-Management

If you are considering laser vision correction, the first step will be a LASIK and refractive eye surgery consultation and a comprehensive eye exam. The purpose of this consultation is to inform and educate you about your treatment options and determine if you are a good candidate for refractive eye surgery, as it is not right for everyone.

What is refractive eye surgery?

Refractive eye surgeries can include a variety of different procedures, but LASIK surgery is the most common option for people who would like to reduce or eliminate the need for contact lenses or eyeglasses.

LASIK surgery is a minimally invasive outpatient surgery. The surgery is performed using a computer-controlled laser to reshape the cornea. This quick procedure typically involves minor side effects and minimal discomfort for the patient. LASIK eye surgery is most often used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Refractive eye surgery consultation

A comprehensive eye exam at Vision Center of Lake Norman in Mooresville or Lifetime Eyecare in Newton is the first step to decide if LASIK or another vision correction procedure is right for you.

When you schedule your appointment, please mention your interest in laser eye surgery. Our staff will be sure to include a LASIK consultation at your exam. Your comprehensive eye exam will include an assessment of your vision and general eye health.

To determine your candidacy, we will evaluate your current prescription as well as other factors such as the presence of eye disease and the thickness and shape of your cornea.

We will discuss refractive surgery options with you, the possible risks and benefits, and the surgery cost, which can vary depending on the type of LASIK technology used. You will have an opportunity to ask questions or bring up potential concerns. Our team will help you determine which procedure may be the best choice for your individual needs.

If you are found to be a good candidate for laser eye correction, we will refer you to a qualified and experienced ophthalmologist for the surgery.

What happens after LASIK surgery?

Your eyes will need time to heal following LASIK surgery. We offer post-operative care for LASIK and refractive eye surgery.

Our post-operative care helps to monitor your recovery and address any issues that may arise in the days after surgery. We will observe any side effects and offer instructions on what to do and what to avoid doing to ensure a thorough recovery.
